The cardiovascular safety profile of dapoxetine has been studied extensively during the drug development. Dapoxetine was created by Eli Lilly and in phase I clinical trial as an antidepressant. In December 2003, Eli Lilly sold the patent for dapoxetine to Pharmaceutical Product Development (PPD) for US$65 million.
